Sometimes as Senior Couples, we get to do things that the young Missionaries are not allowed to do, like go to dances.
They call the LDS District Dances for the older and married folk - Couples Night.
I wish I would have brought at least one long black skirt and one pair of sparkly shoes.... and of course, Elder Roberts always was prepared in his daily white shirt and tie... but we still had fun. Here are some dances we have gone to.
One time that we went a few months ago, was the Mangaldan District Couples Night.
There was a photo shoot set up...
We walked into a lovely room...
The tables are ready.
Sister Rosario is the Relief Society Pres. of the Mangaldan 2nd Branch. She has two children on Missions in the Philippines. She and her husband are caretakers of our Church building. She works toooo hard, bless her heart...
If there is no babysitter, go ahead and bring the child.
Matt Viado was called to be the San Fabian Branch Pres., which is in another town. He lives in Mangaldan.
This is the Elder Quorum Pres. Brother and Sister Oabel.
Brother Cerezo in the white shirt and tie and his wife came and also had their picture taken at the Photo Shoot set-up. Ohhh, he died one month later.... so sad.
Sister Cerezo and their family are happy to remember Lolo (Grampa) and their long life with Temple Marriage and sealings....
Many members we know and love..some names we remember are... Brother and Sister Urbano, Sister Clifford, and Sister Bololong.
Our funny friends, Patricio and Lilibeth Garin always bring humor, fun and laughter everywhere.
Together Forever is an LDS quotation. It means when members of our Church are Married in our Temple, they are Married even in Heaven - for Time and All Eternity !
The Garin's got everyone to get up and dance.
Brother Garin even danced with the single, not married women, or those who like to dance and came.
Even the District Pres. Jardeleza and wife had fun, dancing on the stage....
Then there was a floor show. On our Mission, we are called to support 3 different Branches in Mangaldan.
The 2nd Branch dressed up like the American West, with Elder Roberts wearing a Philippino Cowboy Hat- that everyone loved. ($2.00 at the store here).
We all danced to "Achey Brakey Heart" music.
Brother and Sister Toledo were great.
Here is the next floor show . The ladies dressed up in "1950's" style.
We danced for a while, till Elder Roberts knee hurt and we needed to go home.
BUT,,, the Master of Ceremonies saw us leaving, and said to the audience, How would everyone like our Senior Couple Missionaries to join the other judges of the the Dance Contest?
Well, everyone insisted that we stay, tired or not...
The Toledo's were still great, full of energy...
And a man, who is Elder Roberts age danced away..
And Brother Rod Novelas and wife Yoly had fun.
I think the older man won ! And they insisted that we take home one of the prizes.
We read in the Bible and Doctrine and Covenants:
Ecclesiastes 3
verse 1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
verse 4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
D&C 136:28 If thou art merry, praise the Lord with singing, with music, with dancing and with a prayer of praise and thanksgiving
Another Dance we attended at the Church building was the Young Single Adult Promenade. We were invited (when it was supposed to start at 5)... after a long day of Missionary work. Again, no dance attire, but at least we wore purple...ha ha !
They started to arrive on motorcycles. The young women came in Levis. They changed at the Church, with other friends helping with hair and makeup in several different classrooms.
Irvin Garin, is the young man in the light shirt.
Dresses were beautiful, and modest.
At 6:30 pm, the program began, we ate dinner......
and the Dance started.
Wow, look at his Count of Monte Cristo outfit with white scarf and long black boots....
We heard a talk last Sunday by an Area Authority. He said to the Single Young Adults, who are Returned Missionaries.... This is a "Chocolate Talk" - M & M.
It stands for Mission, then Marriage.
Apostle Elder Scott said:
If you are a young man of appropriate age and are not married, don’t waste time in idle pursuits. Get on with life and focus on getting married. Don’t just coast through this period of life. Young men, serve a worthy mission. Then make your highest priority finding a worthy, eternal companion.
When you find you are developing an interest in a young woman, show her that you are an exceptional person that she would find interesting to know better. Take her to places that are worthwhile. Show some ingenuity. If you want to have a wonderful wife, you need to have her see you as a wonderful man and prospective husband.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ teaches and completes all areas of our lives. We believe in Jesus Christ and his Gospel.
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, amen.
Elder and Sister Roberts
