Floods Slow down our Travel, but not our Spirits. Happy Birthdays

Dear Family and Friends,
First of all, Happy Birthdays to Matt, Sherri, Brice, Janalyne, Wesley, ....

We had a bit of  Typhoons this month.  We hear of them from the Members first,,, and if they are moderate- heavy, from the Mission Home.

We also learn from      typhoon2000.com

Our "typhoons" so far are tons of rain and a little bit of wind.  It rains so hard, it's like being under a Waterfall ! !    (a pic from the web)

So no umbrella can make you stay dry... (We are on our 3rd umbrella,, 1st one- lost.  2nd is somewhat held together with TYVEK tape, and 3rd, - never buy a $36.00 umbrella from Missionary Sisters Mall and think it will be ~better or last longer~ ).  We bought a new one yesterday for $2.00

But, there is a lot of flooding.  Elder Roberts and I "thought" we could go to District Mtg on Tues.  Our home-apt seems to be on higher ground..

We first went to Calasiao (where we live)  downtown, we are on this road...

No school today

On the main hwy, it was dry so, we thought it was just Calasiao... no.

Here are a few before and after pics...

The Before pic. El.Roberts calls it One Owner

 And One Owner after

Before pic, they built a home in middle of a rice paddy...

After -   home in a rice paddy flooded

Before, the Iglesia ni Cristo church

and after with the flood

Some homes are not on stilts, we prayed especially for this one, look at the family...

A truck went passed us, and the water wave it created lifted up the front end of our car,,, since that time, when it rains now, Elder Roberts says let's go get in the Toyota boat..

We waded towards our Mangaldan Church bldg.  It is build higher than the road, but  had cancelled the mtg today..

So, we thought maybe we could find someone along the hwy to teach.  But all their homes off the hwy were flooded today.
Still, some went to work, some kids played

Later we tried to go to the Church for a baptism.  The Elders decided to go through the increased water down the road, but we decided against it.

But, as Sister Garin in our Branch said, Don't worry Sister, we are used to it, we get on the roof for a while till the water goes down.  We start again.  It's ok.
The Amazing Philippinos again. The next day,

May our Spirits be so resiliant as these good and kind and happy people, and may the work of the Lord continue.
Love,
Elder and Sister Roberts
.
