Elder Roberts increased our goals of finding members in our new area of San Fabian 2nd Branch. We invited more members to go with us to find active members and in-active members on the Branch list.
Suzie went with us this time...
We went down the typical road...
at least this one is wide....
We met wonderful people, so kind to welcome us into their homes.
Many times a sweet Lola (Grama) lives with her family including a loving apo babae (grandaughter).
We gave them a picture of the Savior Jesus Christ after our visit.
Families take care of their older members, who also care for the young children of the family. This Lola (Grama), a non-member, chose to listen to the Missionary discussions.
Sweet little cutie !
We went to visit other members. But they were parents and had gone on a visit to Manila. Their non-member daughters with children were there.
They were so kind to us and asked us to come in. So we had prayer, song and read from the Book of Mormon with them.
We gave the Missionaries 2 referrals...
The next time, Richard was our guide. He had us drive down a bridge that was a tight squeeze for our car...
After driving a while, we got out of the car and came to a another bridge.
What are these men looking into the water for?
Oh, it's just a normal thing in the Philippines during May. He's "fishing for oysters".
We gave the camera to Richard. We walked across the bridge..
We got out of the way of the motorcycle, who didn't seem to sense our "fear" that passing us might seem a bit dangerous...
We hadn't noticed that the other side of the bridge was less stable, a little rickety !
Children started following us, with no questions. We gave them a wrapped Mentos candy and sang a song, which helped the parents feel welcoming to us.
We also gave the parents Articles of Faith cards.
We arrived at the beach. The breeze was welcome on a hot day.
Richard led us down the beach towards the member's home..
Is this the home ? No not yet...
We were led up a sandy pathway...
Richard showed us a bush that he said had thorns similar to Christ's Crown of Thorns...
We arrived at the member's home.
Oh bless him, our dear God, he said it was ok, but the roof leaked...
We did have a nice visit, with prayer, song and scripture. He did come to Church, bless his heart.
We passed a man going back to the beach.
Oh y'ell take the High Road, and I'll take the low road, and I'll be in
Na, Sister Roberts, I'll help you across....
After we got across the bridge, we saw a young man carrying sticks.
We thought, this is what people have done for Centuries...
Then we were shocked.... when we heard his - cell phone - ring (!) He put down his sticks to answer it. Then they gave him a double load more. (Not "load" for the phone ha ha!) Talk about our Centuries merging....
We went down the road, and turned a narrow corner...
Richard told us we were to drive between the 2 trees at the end of the road...
Oh really? with the flower bush in the way? Yes, Elder Roberts did drive expertly here.
But, we did walk through this gate...
We stopped to ask directions...
At this member's home, she told us she had 9 children. We asked her if she would say the prayer,,, in Tagalog language.
She did and cried through it, praying for a son that had problems.
We made good friends with them.
While serving as Presiding Bishop of the Church, Elder Merrill J. Bateman taught:
If grieving parents and loved ones have faith in the Savior and his plan, ... sting is softened as Jesus bears the believers' grief and comforts them through the Holy Spirit. Through Christ, broken hearts are mended and peace replaces anxiety and sorrow. . . .
As Isaiah stated concerning the Savior, 'Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: . . . And with his stripes we are healed' (Isaiah 53:4-5).
Home again, at the end of a great, thankful Missionary day.
Love,
Elder and Sister Roberts
